History gets a new life
The five-star Meliá Tres Carabelas Hotel opened in 1962 on a site on Avenida Carlota Alessandri.

1962 – Hotel Mélia Tres Carabelas
The five-star hotel became the poster child for the ultra-luxury hotels in Torremolinos. In 2008, the Meliá Tres Carabelas was demolished; after forty years, it had seen its day. It was time for a new symbol for the new era. A new hotel called Hotel Cruiser, a 22-story building with even a heliport. But ultimately, this prestigious project never got beyond the planning stage. Initially, it wasn't approved by the Junta de Andalucía. And by the time the revised plan was approved, the developer abandoned it due to excessive costs. What remained was a gaping hole.
